1. Who we are

Draft - SideNotes (“the extension”) is a Google Chrome extension published by BrewLab (Felipe Díaz Garay), based in Chile. Contact: [email protected].

2. Summary

The extension does not collect, transmit, sell, or share personal data. Everything you write is stored only in your browser, on your device.

3. What is stored and where

The following data is stored locally through Chrome’s chrome.storage.local API, and the extension never moves it off your device:

  • Your notes: title, text, tags, folder, color, pinned or trashed state, and creation and modification dates.
  • When you use “Save to Draft” on selected text: that text, plus the page’s URL and title, attached to the new note.
  • Your preferences: theme, language, autosave, and folders.

We don’t store browsing history, passwords, form data, or anything from other tabs. A page’s title and URL are read only at the moment you click “Save to Draft”.

4. What we don’t do

  • No servers, ours or anyone else’s, for your data.
  • No cookies, analytics, telemetry, advertising, or tracking.
  • No account or sign-in.
  • No remotely loaded or executed code.

5. Browser permissions

We ask for the minimum. At install time Chrome may show warnings such as “Read and change data on the site you’re visiting when you click”. Here’s what we actually do with each permission:

PermissionHow we use it
storageSaving your notes and settings locally. Never synced or sent to a server.
unlimitedStorageKeeping long or numerous notes from failing to save under the standard 10 MB quota.
sidePanelShowing the interface in Chrome’s side panel.
contextMenusAdding “Save to Draft” to the right-click menu. Only reads the text you select.
activeTabGetting the current tab’s title and URL only when you choose “Save to Draft”. No access to other tabs, no history, nothing in the background.

The extension does not request host permissions (<all_urls>), does not inject scripts into pages, and does not read your browsing history.

6. Incognito mode

If you allow the extension in incognito, notes created there are saved to the same local storage as your regular session and are not deleted when the incognito window closes.

7. Export, import, and deletion

  • You can export all your data to a JSON file from Settings. That file is yours; the extension never sends it anywhere.
  • You can delete all your data from Settings, or by uninstalling the extension, which removes its local storage.
  • Notes in the trash are deleted automatically after 30 days.

8. Your rights (GDPR and equivalent laws)

Because we never process or receive your personal data on a server, we are not a controller of data that never reaches us. Even so, you always have full control to access (view your notes), port (export them as JSON), rectify (edit them), and erase (delete them or uninstall) your information directly in the extension. If you email us, we use your address only to reply and delete it once the conversation is closed. You may lodge a complaint with your country’s data protection authority.

9. Children

The extension is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country) and does not knowingly collect data from them.

10. Chrome Web Store compliance

The use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

11. Changes

If this policy changes, we will publish the new version on this page with its effective date. If a change ever involved collecting data, the extension would ask for your explicit consent first.
